The water is an essential commodity for all the living creatures. The intended purpose of Jal Shakti (PHE) Department Jammu, is to ensure drinking water facility to all the habitations, Rural as well as Urban.

The salient objectives and functions of Jal Shakti (PHE) Department, Jammu are as under.

To investigate, plan and implement water supply schemes to extend drinking water facility to Rural and Urban population including schools and other institutions.

Besides the quantity of water as per the National norms, the quality of the water is also closely monitored by way of establishing drinking water quality testing labs at the division as well as sub-division level.
